Doreen Heng is currently serving in multiple roles at Alexandra Hospital (AH) in Singapore. She is the Assistant Director of Nursing for Clinical, Education, Innovation & Technology in Nursing. Her clinical leadership experience spans from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), ICARE outpatient clinic, and the smart wards in AH. Doreen Heng holds key leadership positions in various committees and workgroups, including being the Lead for Innovation and Technology in Nursing, Sponsor for AH Nursing Practice and Innovation Council, and AH Education Office as Clinical Education Lead (Nursing). She is also in the NUHS Nursing Transformation workgroup, representing AH Nursing. Additionally, she serves as the Programme Champion for NUHS Centre for Nursing Excellence (CoNE), AH Representative for Smart Nursing Ward (SNW), and AH Nursing Education Lead for the National Nursing Academy. She is also a member of the Singapore Nursing Board Continuing Professional Education Committee. She has also served as a member of the AH Nursing Credentialing Committee.

Doreen Heng has an extensive educational background, with a Master of Nursing from the National University of Singapore, a Master in Health Science (Education) from the University of Sydney, and an Advanced Diploma in Nursing (Critical Care) from Nanyang Polytechnic in Singapore.

Apart from her qualifications, Doreen Heng has received awards and recognition for her contributions to the healthcare field. In 2022, she was awarded the MOH Health Innovation Fund (MHI) for her project management in the implementation of digitized and AI intake documentation for hospitalized patients. She was also a CO-PI and CO-inventor in the study trial on “The Robotic Nurse Assistant (RNA) in an Integrated General Hospital” in 2020; in which a patent was filed in 2022. In 2013, she received the NUSH Innovation and Creativity in Education (NICE) Fund Award for her innovative gaming project expanding nursing education (iGENE). She has also been recognized with the MOH Nurses’ Day Merit Award in 2003 and has coached and mentored students in various innovation and creativity awards, with her team achieving merit award and championship in different competitions.

Doreen Heng’s research interests revolve around healthcare redesign, innovative pedagogy and learning, innovation and exnovation, mental resilience, leadership and professional development, as well as acute care, chronic disease management, and long-term care in the community.

Doreen Heng has contributed to publications and presentations in the field of nursing and healthcare. Some of her publications include papers on nurse-led care consolidation, perspectives of preceptors regarding clinical assessment for undergraduate nursing students, development and psychometric testing of a holistic clinical assessment tool, and rapid response team strategies in managing haemodynamically unstable adult patients in acute care hospitals.
